I was really excited to hear that safe sippy is now introducing the Safe Sippy 2 to the world! The safe sippy 2 has all of the great features as the safe sippy, but also includes a travel plug, a travel cap, and even a straw adapter! I think this is a great idea. Now when Brea finally masters the straw I already have everything I need to convert this from a sippy to a "big" girl cup!
The safe sippy was designed with our children's health in mind!
There is very little plastic that comes in contact with the water or juice. The straw is made of plastic, but is BPA, phthalates, and DEHA free! Their reasoning for using a plastic straw is that no one wants to "suck on a stainless steel straw." I have to say they got me on that one. It would probably be extremely uncomfortable.
The Safe Sippy 2 also has removable easy grip handles and a "tapered waist" both of which keep little hands in mind. Speaking of hands lets not forget the thermoplastic rubber sleeve placed over most of the safe sippy. As we all know stainless steel gets cold and it would be extremely uncomfortable to hold onto a stainless steel cup with ice cold liquid inside! The thermoplastic shield prevents the outside of the sippy from getting too cold for our children's hand.
My opinion . . .
For review purposes I used the safe sippy as a sippy cup and it worked wonderfully. This is the first time I have used any stainless steel cup and was surprised to find that I loved it. It is super easy to clean and dishwasher safe (big plus for me I hate hand washing dishes!)
I also love the fact that there is very little plastic coming in contact with any liquids in the cup. With all the scary things I have heard about plastic less means better!
I was interested in why the Safe Sippy 2 has a straw shaped spout instead of the usual sippy cup spouts. I was surprised to find that the wider spouts may cause speech problems and other physical problems associated with the mouth. So the straw shaped spout is another definite plus.
The only problem I noticed was that when I turned the cup upside down is did have a very slow drip. Not really a problem in my house as Brea is usually pretty good with keeping the cup upright. To be honest I don't believe we have ever had a sippy cup that did not drip at all and most drip quite a bit for that matter!
All in all I would have to say that the benefits of the Safe Sippy 2 are excellent and I would definitely recommend this to other moms!

ReplyDeleteWe did the next best thing. We kept contact between water and plastic to a minimum, and we insisted that all our plastics be certified free of Bisphenol A, phthalates and DEHA. We pay for extensive independent laboratory testing on our cups to make sure they are free of these chemicals. Lastly, we make our cap out of Polypropylene, #5 plastic. PP is the most stable of all plastics.
ReplyDeleteThe spout is shaped better than most sippy cups to promote speech development.
