How dangerous is expired pancake mix?

Do you have expired pancake mix and brownie mix in your cabinets? Have you heard that you should throw them all away? Well before you do you should check out http://www.snopes.com/medical/toxins/pancake.asp for yourself.

It mainly states that while pancake mix (or the yeast in it) does not magically grow spores when it is out of date, but has to be exposed to spores. My take is that it is a good breeding ground for spores (still scary huh)

If it is in "unbleached wax paper, plastic, or a foil pouch within its outer packaging wouldn't have this contact and should still be safe no matter how old it gets" On the other hand if it is sold in just a card board box it might become exposed.

IMPORTANT - If your pancakes taste weird DON"T EAT THEM! If you have a mold allergy a little caution will go a long way! If they are sealed in unbleached wax paper, or a foil pouch they should be okay.

Dapper Snapper Review and Giveaway!

My daughter is 90th percentile for height and 25th percentile for weight. So we have some issues with pants. Her pants are either too short or too big in the waist. Up until now we have just had to deal with it or buy the high priced jeans with the adjustable waistband inside.

Kinesys sunscreen spray is so easy to use. I have used other sunscreen sprays and have ended up having to rub the sunscreen in to get adequate coverage. All I want to do, All I want to do is SLEEP!

Wow it has been a busy week! Between work and fun I just can't seem to get any sleep.

Thursday I had to work 13 hours.

Friday I took the munchkin to Chuck-E-Cheese. We left the house at 9:30 in the morning and got home at 9:30 that night. I also found out that my step-dad's daughter was born.

Saturday it was back to work. The original plan was go to work and then go home and be LAZY. Instead we went to visit the new baby of course! So I got up for work at 5:30in the morning and we got home from the hospital at 8:00pm.

Now it is Sunday and once again it is 13 hours at work. So tonight when I get home I am going to sleep. Too bad I have to work tomorrow too.

I am off on Tuesday all I have to do is make it until then. We will stay at home. I will nap with Brea. At least I really, really hope so!

So if I haven't been around very much I hope you understand. I am really working on getting back on track now!

Car Pet Review and Giveaway

The car pet is a neat little conversation starter. Ever since receiving him for review he has been riding with me in the car. Usually when Brea is not in the car he rides shot gun so everyone who decides to take a ride with me gets to meet him. So far everyone wants to know what he is. He of course is my Car Pet!

This weeks question
What is your favorite Kid Oriented Restaurant? If you don't have one how about your favorite restaurant

We are going to Chucky Cheese for the first time today. I don't have any experience with kid oriented restaurants so I don't really have a favorite. I would love to learn about some other ones for us to check out!
My favorite restaurant would have to be Red Lobster I LOVE seafood!

Bathtub oops!

Last night I was giving Brea a bath and had taken a minute to throw in a load of clothes. The next thing I know I hear Brea yelling Mommy, Mommy, Mommy. I of course run back to the tub to see what is going on. When I get to the bathroom door she just looks at me. She stops yelling Mommy and just looks down. When I walk over to the tub I see what the problem is. She pooped in the water! So I get her out and start scooping the poop so that I can flush it down the potty. Every time I scoop she said "poop, uck" Wow when I read this it doesn't sound as funny as it does when I think about it. Oh well that's our story and we're stinking to it!

Now a little about me because after all everyone has to introduce their selves at a party. My name is Sarah I live in the Shenandoah Valley in Virginia. We have lots of scenic areas around us and I should probably be in better shape. I just can't seem to get motivated to hike some trails. Then there is the problem of all the wilderness animals. I am also a single mother, my daughter Brea is 20 months and the light of my life. I work full time at a psychiatric hospital as a registered nurse. Now since I don't have enough to do I am also blogging. Thats okay though because I love it. So have fun at the party and if you get a chance check out some of my reviews and giveaways too!

Well I don't know about you, but we love parties. We usually go all out and buy way too much stuff! Check out some pictures from Brea's first birthday and you will see what I mean. . .

Snack Catcher Review and Giveaway!

My daughter is always dumping her food off the plate, out of the bowl, or anything else she can. Apparently she thinks it is funny to watch mommy pick it up. It doesn't bother me as much when it is at the table because it is usually quite easy to pick up. On the other hand when she has cereal, fruit snacks, or another small snack it can really be quite annoying.

Since buying the Snack Catcher by Munchkin I have noticed a huge decrease in her dumping these small snacks. When she turns the snack catcher upside down the snacks stay inside! Therefore I have spent a whole lot less time picking them up!

Purex 3 in 1 Review

I was so excited to receive the Purex Complete 3 in 1 sheets to review. This product sounded perfect for me and I was not disappointed.

In Purex's words for why it is better. . .

In the long run I am sure that the Purex Complete 3 in 1 sheets will not only save me time, but also money. I am one of those people who never measure the laundry detergent correctly. Instead I just fill up the cup and pour it in. So I always use too much, but I can't seem to train myself to do it any other way. I can also guarantee that at least 90% of the time a small amount of liquid spills while I am pouring it. With these new sheets I no longer have to worry about either of these problems.

Now a little about my clothes after using the Purex Complete 3 in 1 sheets. They were soft, with no static cling, and smelled heavenly.

The softness and no static cling are both important to me. Static cling drives me nuts, but occasionally I forget to grab the dryer sheet due to other things happening in the house. With the Purex Sheets I don't have to worry because the sheet will transfer over with my clothes.

The clothing smell is also a huge plus. I know many people who are able to get that smell with regular laundry products. Not me! I have never been able to wash clothes and keep the scent of the detergent and dryer sheets on the clothes. I am not sure what I do wrong, but it just doesn't happen. I was so excited when I smelled my clothes after using the Purex Complete 3 in 1 sheets and my clothes smelled like the sheets.

This product is definitely a winner for me. From now on I will be purchasing the Purex Complete 3 in 1 laundry sheets to do my laundry!

This weeks question

Summers in the air and so are vacations! So if you could go anywhere in the world on vacation what one spot would you choose?

This is a hard one even for me because I love to travel. I think that I would have to say Australia. It is somewhere I have always wanted to go. I would love to see the kangaroos in their natural habitat. It may also be that this is the one place that no one I know has ever traveled to.

How can you treat you child like that!

Over the weekend I met up with a couple of friends at the park. While we were watching the kids play I overheard a mother yelling at her son. Yes, I know everyone loses their temper once in awhile and we forget to use our calm voices. This was different though.

This lady had grabbed her son by the arm and said "do you want me to whip you" okay so we are not great but not extremely bad yet. Then comes the "or I'll beat the living hell out of you." Now that is going over the top. After she essentially pulls the poor kid to the other side of the playground she says "why were you acting like such a queer." Now I am sorry if I offend anyone out there no scratch that I don't really care if I offend someone! THIS IS NOT OKAY! Sadly the boy's "meme" was nearby and never said anything about how he was being treated.

I finally asked my friend N quite loudly how someone could treat their child like that. I am sure that the girl heard me and they left shortly after that. Later I was talking to my friend J and she said that the only thing the little boy was doing was pretending to steer the fake train., I am sure he couldn't have been more than 4 and Imaginative play is healthy for that age.

My personal opinion is that if this girl keeps it up she is in for a whole world of trouble. Our children will emulate what they see and how they are treated. Sadly she will not be the only one to suffer due to these bad habits, but the boy will to. I hope and pray that this child has someone in his life to show him the right way to live life and that they will be a stronger influence then the girl who wants to call her self mom.

Now for my question to you. . .

How would you handle a situation like this? Hopefully I will never come across a situation like this again, but being realistic I probably will so I would love some ideas on what I should do. After all if children are being treated like this in front of complete strangers how are they being treated in the privacy of their homes.

Zoom Album Review and Giveaway!

Every mother loves showing off pictures of her children. We usually have at least a couple professional photos in our pocketbook for just this reason. Even so there are times when we want to show off our personal photos. The problem is finding a good way to carry our personal photos with us.

I know that on many occasions I have carried around bulky photo albums in order to do this. The problem with these are that they usually do not fit into my pocketbook. If by some chance it does it weighs it down making it uncomfortable to carry.

I have also been known to have 4x6 photos loose in my pocketbook to show off. These photos usually end up bent by the time I make it home and I have to reprint them. Not only is this wasteful, but also time consuming.

All you need to get started is a computer and an inkjet printer with ink, the kit has everything else needed to make the album. The software is PC and MAC compatible. I personally own a MAC and they worked fabulously together.

The only difficulty I had was printing the cover for the album. I emailed zoom album and was sent exact directions on what to do with my computer and printer. Following their instructions made it super easy. I loved that these instructions were for a MAC with my exact printer! So if you run into any difficulties just take a moment to email and I am sure they will be glad to help you.

My end result I have a great little photo album to show off to my friends, family, and co-workers without the bulk, weight, or increased risk of damaging photos. It fits comfortably inside my pocketbook for easy carrying. What more could I want? In my opinion its great. I also think this would be a great gift for family especially grandmas because we know they have the same picture issues!

How hard should it be to cancel a membership!

So today I went to the local Gold's Gym to cancel my membership because I haven't been using it. First the lady asks if I had a 2 year membership and I told her no (I would have went to another gym if this had been an issue). After she finally proved it to herself she handed me a small piece of paper with instructions on how to cancel my membership.

First I have to mail a certified letter to ABC financial stating that it is my 30 day cancelation. Then after receiving confirmation that they received the letter I need to call their toll free number to be sure they posted it to my account correctly. In my opinion this is a lot of hoops to go through to cancel a membership. After all, all I had to do when I signed up was go inside and sign a paper!

This is not my first gym membership in the past I have also used Lifetime Fitness and Nautilus. With both of these gyms the only thing that I had to do to cancel my membership was go inside the facility and sign a paper. The paper was my 30 day notice and the company took care of the rest.

I do not understand why a company would make you go through all of these hoops in order to cancel. Maybe it has something to do with the fact that many people will keep forgetting to mail the request in. If we forget they keep getting our money. I actually talked to one of my friends that this happened to. Well not me my letter will be mailed tomorrow and if I ever decide to join a gym again it will definitely be a different one. I will also be sure to ask what their cancelation policy is at the time of joining.

I am not sure what is going on with my layout. I will try to figure it out today. I do have a copy of my information at home so I may be able to fix it then. Is anyone else having a problem with their's! Does anyone have any idea how to fix it? If so I could really use some advice.
